Do You Need an Instagram Account as an Enneagram Coach?

What to consider before jumping into content creation mode.

If you’re an Enneagram coach trying to grow your business, you might feel pressure to be everywhere online, especially on Instagram.

With coaches, therapists, and influencers sharing reels, carousel posts, and daily stories, it’s easy to wonder:

Do I really need to be on Instagram to be successful?

I used to wonder the same thing. When I first started my business, I posted on Instagram constantly because I thought I had to.

And honestly?

I hated it.

I’m super introverted (Self-Pres 9, here 🙋‍♀️), and feeling like I had to be “on” and visible all the time was overwhelming.

Eventually, I gave myself permission to take a step back. Now, I post occasionally when I want to, not because I feel like I have to, and it’s made such a difference.

That’s also my advice to clients: do what feels right to you.

Whether that’s Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, or none of the above, there are other ways to market your business and connect with the people you’re here to serve.

Let’s talk about how to decide if Instagram fits into your business—or not.

Why Instagram Can Be Helpful

Instagram is a powerful tool for visibility and connection, especially in the personal growth space.

Here’s what it can offer:

  1. Reach a wider audience.
Instagram has a massive user base. Using hashtags like #EnneagramCoach or #EnneagramType4 can help people discover you, even if they’ve never heard of your business before.

  2. Build trust over time.
Posting regularly builds familiarity. When someone is thinking about hiring a coach or booking a typing interview, they’re more likely to reach out to someone whose face, voice, and words they’ve seen consistently.

  3. Showcase your style and approach.
Instagram gives you a visual and written way to show how you work. Are you reflective and gentle? Energetic and direct? Is your content identity-affirming, deeply spiritual, or practical and to the point? Your content can help ideal clients self-select in.

  4. Share educational content for your audience.
Your insights on types, subtypes, relationships, and growth tips can be packaged into quick, digestible content. This adds value and positions you as a go-to resource.

But just because Instagram can be useful doesn’t mean it’s the right platform or timing for every coach.

When You Might Not Need Instagram (Right Now)

Not every business needs to start with Instagram. And not every season of your business requires content creation.

Here are some good reasons to press pause or skip it altogether:

  1. You’re just starting out and feeling overwhelmed.
If you’re still clarifying your services, figuring out your audience, or building your website, trying to post regularly on Instagram might be more stressful than strategic.

  2. Your audience isn’t spending much time there.
Some audiences—like corporate clients, spiritual directors, or therapists—might be more active on LinkedIn or prefer referrals and word-of-mouth. If that’s your audience, Instagram may not be your best investment.

  3. You hate using it.
Let’s be honest, if the platform drains you, confuses you, or sparks imposter syndrome every time you log in, it may not be worth the trade-off. There are other ways to market your work.

  4. You don’t have a content strategy.
Without a plan or clear purpose, it’s easy to waste time creating posts that don’t lead anywhere. Instagram works best when it’s part of a broader strategy, not your only marketing effort.

What to Do Instead (Or Before) Instagram

If you’re not ready, or not interested, in using Instagram right now, here are some other ways to grow your business as an Enneagram coach:

  • Start an email list.
Email marketing is still one of the most effective (and personal) ways to connect with potential clients.

  • Build your website.
Your site can do the heavy lifting: explaining what you do, who you help, and how to work with you.

  • Lean into referrals.
Reach out to past clients, Enneagram peers, or local practitioners. A personal referral is often more powerful than a viral post.

  • Pitch workshops or speaking events.
Offline or online, showing up in real-time can build trust quickly.

  • Choose a platform that feels natural.
Some coaches love podcasting, blogging, or using LinkedIn. You don’t have to be everywhere.

If You Do Use Instagram, Make It Sustainable

If you decide to go all in (or dip your toe back in) keep these tips in mind:

  • Pick a cadence that feels realistic.
You don’t have to post daily. Start with once or twice a week.

  • Reuse content across platforms.
A blog post can become a carousel. A client question can become a reel.

  • Schedule content in batches.
Take one day a month to plan and schedule content using a tool like Plann or Later.

  • Know your goals.
Are you building awareness? Selling a product? Booking 1:1 clients? Let that guide your content.

Final Thoughts

Instagram can be a great tool for connection, growth, and visibility, but it’s not the only path to building a successful Enneagram coaching business.

The best platform is the one you’ll actually use, one that feels aligned with your energy, and one that helps you connect with the people you’re here to serve.

You don’t need to do what everyone else is doing.

You need to do what works for you.
