How to Start an Enneagram Coaching Business (Even If You’re Not Sure Where to Begin)

Starting an Enneagram coaching business can feel equal parts exciting and overwhelming.

Perhaps you’ve fallen in love with the Enneagram and experienced its profound impact firsthand. You’re passionate about self-awareness, growth, and helping others, but the idea of turning that passion into a business? That’s where things get fuzzy.

If you’ve ever thought, “I want to do this work, but I have no idea how to begin,” you’re not alone.

This guide will walk you through the step-by-step process of starting an Enneagram coaching business, so you can feel grounded, focused, and confident in moving forward without getting stuck in perfectionism or analysis paralysis.

1. Get Clear on Your Why and Who

Before you dive into logos or landing pages, take a moment to reflect:

Why do you want to coach? And who do you want to help?

Do you want to:

  • Support individuals in their personal growth?

  • Work with couples?

  • Help teams communicate better?

  • Focus on a specific life stage or even a specific Enneagram type?

You don’t need to have a perfectly defined niche right now, but it helps to start with a general direction in mind.

Your niche can evolve over time—what matters most is knowing what draws you to this work and who you feel most called to support.

2. Decide If You Want to Join a Certification Program to Deepen Your Knowledge

You do not have to be certified to coach with the Enneagram, but some people find structure and confidence through formal programs.

Enneagram certification programs (like CP Enneagram Academy, Narrative Tradition, or others) can help you deepen your understanding, learn how to use the tool responsibly, and connect with a like-minded community.

If you’re self-taught or have studied independently, that’s valid too. Many coaches begin with their own lived experiences and expand their knowledge as they progress.

The key is to commit to ongoing learning, whether that’s through books, workshops, mentorship, or formal study.

3. Define the Services You’ll Offer

There’s no one “right” way to structure your business. Start with what feels aligned and doable for you.

Some common Enneagram coaching services include:

  • Typing interviews

  • 1-on-1 coaching sessions

  • Coaching packages or programs

  • Group sessions or workshops

  • Team trainings or retreats

If you’re unsure what to offer, start with a single session or a typing interview, or notice what your clients are asking for most.

Experience will show you what you enjoy most—and what yields the best results.

4. Build a Simple Home Base Online

No, you don’t need a fancy website to start. But you do need a place where people can learn about you and take the next step.

At a minimum, your home base should include:

  • Who you help

  • What you offer

  • How to contact or book with you

This could be a simple one-page website, a landing page through an email service provider like Kit, or even a well-organized link-in-bio tool. You can always grow later, but having a home base builds trust and helps people take action.

5. Choose 1–2 Marketing Channels You Can Actually Keep Up With

Trying to be everywhere at once is the fastest path to burnout. Instead, choose one or two places to show up regularly.

Think about:

  • Where your ideal clients already spend time

  • What feels natural for you to use (Instagram? Email? LinkedIn?)

  • How you enjoy sharing your voice (writing? speaking? visuals?)

You don’t have to be an “influencer.”

You just have to be consistent.

Show up with helpful content, personal reflections, and genuine curiosity. You’re not just marketing—you’re building relationships.

6. Gain Confidence Through Experience

There’s no substitute for real conversations. The best way to become a coach… is to start coaching.

Offer a few free or discounted sessions to people you trust, and gradually raise your prices as you gain more experience.

Practice doing typing interviews. Ask for feedback and testimonials. You’ll learn what questions work best, how to guide a session, and where you shine.

Perfection isn’t required. Presence, care, and curiosity go a long way.

7. Stay Grounded in Your Own Growth

Coaching with the Enneagram is powerful work, but it starts with you.

The more grounded you are in your own inner work, the more effective and trustworthy you’ll be as a guide for others.

That doesn’t mean being “healed” or always having it together. It means staying committed to your own process.

Find ways to stay connected:

  • Continue studying the Enneagram

  • Get support from peers or a mentor

  • Build in time for reflection or rest

Your presence is one of your greatest tools.

You Don’t Need to Have It All Figured Out

You don’t need a perfect niche, a flawless website, or a 10-step business plan to start. You just need a clear intention and the courage to take one small step.

Starting your Enneagram coaching business isn’t about doing everything at once—it’s about learning as you go, listening to your clients, and letting your business evolve as you do.

So take that next step. You’re more ready than you think.
